If you haven’t replaced your toilet in a while, you are probably not taking advantage of the cost savings of  High-Efficiency Toilets (HET). Recent advances have lowered the gallons per flush (gpf) to 1.28 – this is less water than the current federal standard of 1.6 gpf. In addition, major manufacturers have been working on improving flushing technology (because High Efficiency isn’t really efficient if you have to flush twice!). Many manufacturers will walk you through the process of choosing a toilet on their websites. Kohler has a great step by step guide, click here  to learn more about toilet shopping.  If you want to save money while improving the look of your home, contact your local licensed plumber and arrange to have a new HET installed!
