Â A universal fill valve sometimes fixes your running toilet, but it may end up causing a different problem – such as having to flush multiple times. The fill valve should be the same manufacturer as your toilet.
You should not have to constantly flush your toilet. This is not necessarily an indication that there is something clogging up the line, but may be a clue that the toilet is not getting enough water. Â You would have to lift the top off of the toilet tank and ensure that the fill valve is functioning properly and allowing the proper water flow.
A loose tank or rocking toilet is an indication the problem may be bigger than you think. A broken tank or a broken toilet flange in the floor can lead to a flood and cause serious water damage to your home. It is best to call a licensed plumber if either of these situations arise.
If you are using a cleaner that you drop in the tank, you may want to think twice. Most of these have corrosive acid in them and will eat away at the inside of the tank. To clean the tank, simply lift the lid and wipe the tank clean with a cloth. This will get the job done and extend the life of your tank.
